Custom Foot Orthotics

An ‘orthotic’ is a device designed to restore your natural foot function. Many ‘biomechanical’ (walking) complaints such as heel pain, knee pain and lower back pain are caused by poor foot function. Orthotics realign the foot and anklebones to their neutral position, thereby restoring natural foot function. In turn, this helps alleviate problems in other parts of the body.

Things to Know about Custom Orthotics:

Any imbalance in your feet can alter the bone structure of your feet and lower legs, causing pain or discomfort. Custom Foot Orthotics help to eliminate posture problems as well as foot and leg pain.

Do I Need a Prescription or a Referral?

No. Chiropractors are primary health care professionals and therefore, do not need a physician’s referral.

Although they are a medical device, custom orthotics do not require a prescription when provided by a medical professional.

How long will they last?

Foot orthotics usually last between 12 and 18 months.  It is recommended that you have a backup pair on hand..

Are they easy to get used to?

Does it take time to get used to wearing an orthotic?

Like most things, your feet are going to need some time to adjust to this new, correct way of walking. Orthotics should be used gradually to begin with, approximately 3-4 hours during the first 48 hours of use. After the first 48 hours it is recommended that the orthotics be used for 6-8 hours, until the second week of use, when the orthotics may be utilized all day.
.

Orthotics are most beneficial to people who spend most of their day standing or walking.

Orthotics can also reduce pain associated with sports-related conditions, and help to counteract extra stress being placed on the feet for any overweight individuals.
